U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) released the following statement on the passing of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter.
“Today the Congress lost one of its truest champions for working men and women across this country. Louise Slaughter was a force – she fought tirelessly for the hardworking families in her district with tenacity, grace and humor. Whether it was pushing for fair trade, affordable health care, or access to a quality education for every child, Louise dedicated her life to building a better future for her neighbors in Rochester and Americans across the country.
“As a trailblazing woman in Congress and the first woman to chair the powerful House Rules Committee, Louise inspired countless young women to follow her example and worked diligently to open the doors wider for those who came after her. John and I are simply heartbroken by the loss of a wonderful friend and colleague, and our prayers are with Louise’s family and friends during this difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing that Louise’s spirit and her work will carry on through all those whose lives she touched.”
