Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) today marked Older Americans Month by releasing a Long-term Care Guidebook, a comprehensive resource guide for those requiring or providing care in Southeast Michigan. The Guidebook includes a variety of resources to help seniors and their families related to long-term care, aging and caregiving, as well as contact information for local support services.

“Long-term care is a concern that affects all Americans, and we know the challenges surrounding long-term care extend far beyond the patient and impact families and communities,” said Dingell. “Navigating the current patchwork of public programs, private insurance and various support services can be complicated, confusing and frustrating. This Guidebook brings all the pieces together in one place so families and seniors can find help and get the support they need.”

Also today, the White House announced that the 2015 Conference on Aging will be held in Washington, D.C. on July 13. In conjunction with this news, Dingell announced that her office will host a series of long-term care conversations this summer to coincide with the conference and share and collaborate on issues that will help shape the landscape for older Americans in the coming decades. Dingell will work with local organizations, advocates, and community leaders on the conversations aimed at providing support, resources, and guidance to seniors and family caregivers. Dingell is committed to working in Congress to find innovative solutions that bring the long-term health care system into the 21st century and help seniors and those with disabilities get the care they need. The first bill she authored, the Medicare Hearing Aid Coverage Act of 2015, helps solve one piece of the puzzle by making Medicare cover hearing aids for beneficiaries.
