Dingell Applauds Action to Stop Annoying Robocalls
Washington,
July 24, 2019
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) voted to pass the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act, bipartisan legislation that will bring much needed relief for Americans receiving abusive robocall practices. “Everyone will a phone has experienced the annoyance of robocalls meant to scam hard-working Americans,” said Dingell. “By passing this bipartisan legislation, the House is taking concrete steps to end this epidemic once and for all. No longer will people’s lives be interpreted by scams or predatory phone calls.” Included in this bill is Dingell’s Protecting Patients and Doctors from Unlawful Robocalls Act which helps hospitals and patients combat the constant waves of unlawful robocalls that inundate patients’ cell phones and hospital phone lines. Last year, an estimated 47.8 billion robocalls were placed nationwide, an increase of 17 billion calls over the previous year. Illegal robocalls affect American life in increasingly harmful ways, from scams to defraud consumers to disrupting our health care system, and much more. H.R. 3375, the “Stopping Bad Robocalls Act,” would require the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to adopt critical consumer protections, require all carriers over time to implement a new technology to make sure that caller-ID information is appropriately authenticated with no additional charge for consumers on their bill, and allow the blocking of calls in a reasonable manner. ### |
