Dingell Statement on Anniversary of the Trump Administration’s Unconstitutional Muslim Travel Ban

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) released the following statement on the three year anniversary of the Trump Administration’s unconstitutional Muslim Travel Ban:

“Freedom of religion is a fundamental pillar of our democracy. Three years ago, the Trump Administration knocked that pillar when it instated the Muslim Travel Ban. This type of ban is not who we are as a country, from standing up to anti-Semitism, islamophobia and other types of religious hatred, the United States has always been a land of opportunity for individuals seeking religious freedom. No family or community should be separated because of their religion or where they come from. However, the Trump Administration’s unconstitutional Muslim Travel Ban continues to do that every day. National security experts have been clear that the Muslim Ban has made our country less safe, not more safe.

“Everyone has the right to exercise their religion freely and openly. I’ve stood on the steps of the Supreme Court and fought in Congress to protect our Constitution. We all must work together to uphold our nation’s heritage as a place of hope, freedom, and opportunity for all, regardless of religion or ethnicity. This is something we can do while keeping our nation strong and protecting our national security.”
