Coronavirus update: March 20, 2020
Washington,
March 20, 2020
Here’s an update for Friday, March 20. We will continue these updates as long as necessary.
Thought of the day: In a difficult situation, smile. It makes a world of difference. I’m available as I always am. Tonight at 5:30pm I’m hosting a telephone town hall to provide updates on actions being taken to keep us healthy and financial secure. You can join by calling 855-920-0560 at 5:30pm. The IRS just announced that deadline to file your taxes has been extended to July 15. Please share this important update with your family, friends, and colleagues. We have a massive shortage right now of personal protective equipment (PPEs) for healthcare workers. The hardworking men and women on the front lines need this gear. The President must immediately use powers under the Defense Production Act. It will allow us to mass produce medical gear and help those on the front lines. We must do everything possible to halt the shortages, and I know many hardworking men and women in Southeast Michigan willing to help make this gear. The federal government has just declared the state of Michigan as an economic disaster. This sounds scary, but this designation offers low-interest loans to small businesses. If you or someone you know runs a small business, please share this update with them. More information here. Offering unemployment insurance to hardworking men and women across the country is a must right now. The Families First Coronavirus Act that was signed into law by the president will send money directly to states to help them offer unemployment insurance to people. If you or someone you know needs to sign up for unemployment, click here. Contact numbers for people looking for information are:
