Coronavirus update: March 22, 2020

Here’s an update for Sunday, March 22.

Thoughts of the day: It is Sunday, a time for reflection, prayer, rest, and looking forward.

There are several families from the 12th Congressional District stranded in Peru & Guatemala. We know this has caused great angst for the families involved and I have been working very hard with all available resources to try to facilitate their return to the US. My office has been in contact with a Dearborn family in Peru and continues to work with the embassy and the State Department to ensure their safety.

Saturday, Governor Whitmer ordered the closing of all on-essential personal care businesses. This includes hair salons and barbershops, nail, tanning, massage, spa, tattoo, body art & piercing services. These closures will be difficult for many but necessary. Congress and the state will work to help those affected by these closures. Congress is putting families and workers first in all the emergency legislation passed.

For employers and businesses impacted by these closures, please remember you can file for a low-interest disaster loan from the Federal government here. For employees impacted by this, you can file for unemployment here

The IRS announced that deadline to file your taxes has been extended to July 15. Please share this important update with your family, friends, and colleagues.
