Coronavirus update: April 2, 2020

Here’s an update for Thursday, April 2.

Thought of the day: Mark Twain said it best, “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear — not absence of fear.”

A Detroit ad agency released this powerful video. We are the Motor City. We are Strong. We stay home now so we can come back stronger than ever. Click below to watch the video.

I had my weekly town hall and am very grateful for Jeff Donofrio, Director of Labor and Economic Opportunity and Dr. Kimberlydawn Wisdom of Henry Ford Health System for answering many questions on unemployment, safe working conditions, safe mitigation, what to do if you think you have COVID-19, wearing masks and many other subjects.

Currently working with House Leadership on a fourth coronavirus relief package. We’re pushing for strong support to hospitals, state and local governments, support for seniors and people with disabilities, and stopping water and utility shutoffs. We’re also working on provisions to lower COBRA health coverage which can be very expensive after you lose your job. Will keep you all updated on this.

Most of us know someone whose lost their job. Please make sure they know they can file for unemployment. Now more than ever we need to make sure people are being extended a helping hand.www.michigan.gov/uia

The healthcare workers are doing so much for us. They’re working so hard and helping us. They need to get the PPE they need. They need to have relief. Today and every day, we stand with them. #Hailtothefrontline

So today is day 18 of physical distancing for me and I’m going to keep doing it as long is advised. Leaders lead, and we all have to set a good example. I’m doing it with a ‘Can Do’ attitude and a smile on my face. We all have a responsibility to stay in. If I can do it, you can do it. I’m not someone who was meant to be away from people for this long. But we all have a responsibility to flatten the curve and stop the spread. Stay home. Stay safe. Save Lives.

New information becomes available everyday. Below is a list of resources and information that can be helpful during this time. Please share this information with your family, friends, and colleagues. Stay Home. Stay Safe. Save Lives.
