Coronavirus update: April 18, 2020

Here is an update for April 18, 2020.

Thought of the day: Life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving, we get stronger & more resilient – Steve Maraboli

Our community is so grateful for all the front line workers. The health care workers, first responders, grocery store workers, food deliverers, public transit workers, factory workers making PPE and ventilators, and so many more. In every community across the country, front line workers are stepping up. Here’s a short video to express our gratitude:

Yesterday, Congresswoman Jackie Walorski and I introduced bipartisan legislation to strengthen the Strategic National Stockpile while improving domestic manufacturing of personal protective equipment and improving our nation’s ability to respond to pandemics and future disasters. Modernizing the Strategic National Stockpile and our medical supply chain is key to ensuring that frontline health care workers and first responders are never again left without adequate supplies of personal protective equipment. It should have never come to this.

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and I are deeply concerned about the closure of Beaumont Wayne Hospital. We’ve heard from staff and community members that this will have a negative impact on the region during this crisis. Yesterday, we followed up with a number a significant questions to understand Beaumont’s business plan for a number of their hospitals, including the future of Western Wayne and Downriver facilities. Beaumont’s decisions impact us all, and during a health crisis like we are in we need to know what’s going on.
