Dingell Statement on Beaumont Temporary Layoffs
Washington,
April 21, 2020
DEARBORN, MI – Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) issued the following statement after Beaumont Health announced they were temporarily laying off about 2,475 employees and eliminating about 450 positions due to financial stress caused by the COVID-19 crisis: “The COVID-19 crisis is putting incredible stress on our hospitals and health systems, at the exact time they are critical in our battle of this invisible enemy,” said Dingell. “Beaumont made a difficult announcement in demonstrating the difficult times hospitals are having and the impact on many employees who have worked very hard, loyally and now are being laid off because of this virus. We continued to be concerned about ensuring outer Wayne County and the Downrivers have critical access to health care. Beaumont management has assured us that Beaumont Wayne will shortly reopen and the other two are providing very needed services now and in the future. We will continue to monitor all these issues.” Dingell concluded, “Congress must urgently increase support for hospitals and health care providers to ensure their strength on the front lines of this crisis. This is just another difficult day and we have to help the people impacted. The virus has many victims.” |
