Coronavirus update: May 5, 2020

Here is an update for May 5th.

Thought of the day: “Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. The best is yet to come.” – Zig Ziglar

There is still time to act, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019 and who have qualifying dependents should immediately go to the IRS’s Non-Filer Tool to provide information about themselves and their children.  They need to act by Tuesday, May 5, 2020 to receive the full amount of their Economic Impact Payments as soon as possible. By doing so, they may receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment.  We strongly encourage completing this process now, in order to avoid having to wait to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

Please note that Direct Express card holders who use the IRS’ Non-Filer tool will not receive their $1,200 payment on their Direct Express card. They will receive both their $1,200 payment and each child’s $500 payment on a non-Direct Express bank account they can provide, or by mail if they leave bank information empty. If they do not use the Non-Filer tool, they will receive their $1,200 payment on their Direct Express card.

We continue to hear many questions about the economic stimulus payments. We and the IRS are doing everything possible to ensure everyone who qualifies receive their payment. Millions have already gotten it, but if you haven’t please follow this IRS link to their FAQs page. This should help answer any questions you may have. If you still have questions, Team Dingell is here to help and we can be contacted here.

In order to keep essential workers safe and slowly reopen our economy, we must rethink worker safety in this country. With workplace standards in place, with employers working with their employees, explaining what the new procedures are, the importance of their following the new procedures, the importance of PPE equipment, we can get back to normal sooner and ensure the critical infrastructure is in place so we can help defeat this deadly virus. This will give workers and employers the peace of mind need as we slowly start to reopen our economy.
Community testing is key for defeating this virus. Below find ongoing and pop up coronavirus testing in Ypsilanti:

To close out today’s note I share with you a video from Jeff Daniels and Big Sean offering hope. Often times, it’s not what you look at that matters. It’s what you see. You see a spirit with fight, heroes, and hope. We keep moving, we keep going.

Team Dingell is here seven days a week and wants to listen and help. It isn’t as smooth as we want on some issues, but we will never stop fighting for you. Call our office at 313-278-2936 or contact us through Facebook or our webpage.
