Coronavirus update: May 11, 2020

Here is an update for May 11th.
Thought of the day: Don’t let Monday get you down, make a plan, and start the week ready to accomplish your goals. Today will begin the slow reopening of manufacturing in this state. All the workers going back today must follow the protocol that was set up to keep them safe. There will be questions before you enter the facility or plant and that will be your first point of screening. Workers and everyone at the plant will have their temperature taken and if you have one you will be not be allowed to enter and be sent to have a test for COVID-19. Workers will be given PPE equipment appropriate to where they’re working. The focus will be to keep the worker safe and everyone involved safe. This is an important start to what may be the new workplace standard. Remdesivir is an experimental drug that has shown promise in treating certain patients hospitalized with COVID-19. When Fred Upton and I found out Michigan Medicine was denied doses from the federal stockpile we jumped to action. Michigan will now be one of the six states to receive a shipment of the drug. We will get 1,600 vials and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is working on a strategy for how to distribute the drug. Yesterday we celebrated Mother’s Day by Zoom with my mom and decided that her Mother’s Day gift would become a new ritual in our family, a weekly Sunday Zoom call with all of us. It’s important to keep rituals going and staying in touch with one another. Remember it is physical distancing, not social distancing.
Team Dingell is here seven days a week and wants to listen and help. It isn’t as smooth as we want on some issues, but we will never stop fighting for you.
