Coronavirus Update: May 24

Here is an update for May 24th.

Thought of the day: “Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart – and you’ll never walk alone.” -Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel

Michigan reported an additional 65 deaths Saturday tied to COVID-19. The families, friends, and communities that will never be the same without their souls and the 5,158 fatalities statewide. This morning, the cover of the New York Times hit hard. The names and brief impact each of the nearly 100,000 dear Americans we have lost to the virus. It’s Memorial Day weekend, and my heart is just breaking for the deep scars left on our communities, nation, and world.

To all my friends celebrating, EID MUBARAK! My warmest greetings to all those celebrating Eid al-Fitr in the 12th congressional district and around the globe. This year, Eid is an opportunity to reflect on the Last 30 days of Ramadan, and a time to virtually gather and celebrate with loved ones. In the Congress, I led a resolution recognizing the Eid al-Fitr and recognizing the important role of Muslim Americans. God willing, I look forward to joining you in person next year for the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr!
