Dingell Statement on State Attorneys General Filing Lawsuit on Fuel Economy Standards

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) issued the following statement after Attorneys General from California, Michigan, and 21 states intervened in fuel economy litigation:

“While I applaud California Attorney General Xavier Becerra for standing up for strong fuel economy standards, it is unfortunate that it got to this point. I have said all along that we need to have everyone at the table – EPA, NHTSA, CARB, automakers, and environmentalists – to reach a compromise on one national program for fuel economy that preserves the twin goals of environmental protection and consumer affordability. Protracted litigation is not an optimal outcome for the industry, consumers or the environment, but the actions of the Administration led to the place we are today. We need common sense fuel economy standards that increase year-over-year and preserve the role of the United States as the leaders in innovation and technology.”
