Dingell Update: June 6, 2020
Washington,
June 6, 2020
Here is an update for June 6th.
Thought of the day: “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” – Barack Obama It’s the weekend, after weeks of experiencing almost every emotion under the sun I hope people take time to self-care, take a deep breath, and reflect on focusing on the positive – not the negative. This weekend, many communities are having walks or marches to peacefully speak out for change. The conversation is important and I will be joining as many as I can. I stand in solidarity with justice for all. As many of participate, we need to make sure we wear masks, keep physical distancing, and washing hands as often as possible. And bring plenty of water as the temps are going up this weekend. Governor Whitmer announced 350,000 Michigan families will continue to have access to additional food assistance benefits for the rest of the month. Eligible recipients will see additional food assistance benefits on their Bridge Card this week and by June 30. No Michigander should worry about how to put food on the table for themselves and their family. 76 years ago today, the Allied Forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in the largest seaborne invasion in history and laid the groundwork for an allied victory in World War II. General Dwight D. Eisenhower famously told troops on D-Day: “The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.” His words still ring true today as we honor the brave servicemembers who fought and died to defend the democratic values we hold dear. Because of those brave men, we are able to fight today for a more equal and just society, and a better country for our children and grandchildren. Everyone, please take care of yourselves. I love you all and we are a community. Team Dingell is here seven days a week and wants to listen and help. It isn’t as smooth as we want on some issues, but we will never stop fighting for you.
