Dingell Update: June 8
Washington,
June 8, 2020
Here is an update for June 8th.
Thought of the day: "Where you see wrong or inequality or injustice, speak out, because this is your country. This is your democracy. Make it. Protect it. Pass it on." — Thurgood Marshall Yesterday, there were walks, marches, rallies in Wyandotte, Riverview, Southgate, and Dearborn led by young people to come together as a community to raise awareness of injustice and inequality and to call for change and to be the leaders for change. Asking for action not just words. Those attending were young and old, diverse backgrounds, faiths, color, sex and sexual, persuasion...caring and engaging. Many more are planned in many communities in the 12th District this week.
A new study in the medical journal Nature found that nationwide lockdowns may have prevented 60 million COVID-19 infections in the United States and 285 million infections in China. Another study from Imperial College London, said the shutdowns in Europe saved 3.1 million lives and cut infection rates by 82 percent. With Michigan reopening more parts of the economy today, let’s remember that this virus is still real and that we must still practice safety precautions in the name of the thousands we have lost due to the virus. In Michigan today, many restaurants, public pools, zoos, libraries, and museums will reopen under careful guidelines. For most, they will be at a limited capacity -- mostly 50% capacity. This is a major step for phase 4 of reopening and we all need to continue to make sure we are being smart and remembering to wear masks, try to keep physical distance and keep washing your hands.
