Dingell update: June 12, 2020

Here is an update for June 12th.

Thought of the day: “We must reach out our hand in friendship and dignity both to those who would befriend us and those who would be our enemy.” - Arthur Ashe

The Postal Service is critical and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic has kept us connected. People rely on USPS to deliver life-saving medications, essential services, and keep us in touch. Yesterday, I joined 137 House members in calling on the senate to pass emergency funding for USPS to offset revenue losses. It’s more than just mail, it’s what keeps us connected, helps society function, and remains pivotal in all our lives.

Many communities continue to hold marches to speak out for equality and against injustice. I’m attending as many as I can safely – wearing a mask, keeping physical distance, and washing hands or using hand sanitizer often. Peace and safety are critical.

Today at Noon, I hosted a hearing on COVID-19 and to discuss how this ongoing public health and economic crisis has further highlighted the need and case for Medicare for All. Joining me was Pramila Jayapal – the other lead sponsor of the House bill with me – and national leaders to discuss Medicare for All. We’re here at a critical moment. Right now our nation is still under a public health emergency from COVID-19 – which is our main focus for today’s event – but as our nation listens, learns, and acts on racial disparities we cannot turn away from the very serious health disparities that exist for African Americans. And how those disparities put our Black neighbors and friends at greater risk for COVID-19. It’s all connected – it’s all important – it all needs to be addressed. You can watch the event here.

Yesterday, Michigan reported 218 new COVID-19 cases and 26 deaths related to COVID-19. This virus is still real. Still spreading. We all must remain diligent to stop more spread. Wear a mask, keep physical distance, and wash your hands or use hand sanitizer. We are all in this together.

Team Dingell is here seven days a week and wants to listen and help. It isn’t as smooth as we want on some issues, but we will never stop fighting for you. Call our office at 313-278-2936 or contact us through Facebook or our webpage.
