Dingell Update: June 13

Here is an update for June 13th.

Thought of the day: “You cannot be afraid to speak up and speak out for what you believe. You have to have courage, raw courage.” – John Lewis

Yesterday, Michigan reported 8 deaths related to COVID-19 and 125 new cases. We all must remain diligent to stop more spread. Wear a mask, keep physical distance, and wash your hands or use hand sanitizer. We are all in this together.

There’s a new report that shows how Governor Whitmer’s Stay Home, Stay Safe order saved perhaps tens of thousands of lives. This means that Michiganders who have done their part to slow the spread helped saved lives. This is good news, and we owe it to our heroes on the front lines to keep doing our part. That means wearing your mask when out in public, carrying hand sanitizer, and taking precautions.

Communities have been gathering in response to the injustice across the country. Young and old, men and women, girls and boys, black, brown, white, different religions, different sexual persuasions, of all races, color, national origin, citizenship status, gender identity or expression. I have been to fourteen walks, marches, gatherings in the last week across Michigan’s 12th Congressional District. These events have been peaceful, build community, and acknowledge the need for change. Law enforcement has participated, kept people safe and talked to the young people in very real and honest ways.

The NIH announced it will fund a study to evaluate drugs prescribed to infants and kids to treat COVID-19. There was a previous trial that examined drugs that are prescribed off-label to children. We will keep you updated as we hear more on this. The study is being conducted at almost 40 sites and will be located near diverse communities.

I leave you with this feel good story of the day about a young man from Buffalo, NY. Dismayed and upset by damage across his home city, he took it on himself to clean up damage and trash left behind. You can read more about the story here. There’s so much good out there during this time.

Team Dingell is here seven days a week and wants to listen and help. It isn’t as smooth as we want on some issues, but we will never stop fighting for you. Call our office at 313-278-2936 or contact us through Facebook or our webpage.
