Dingell update: August 21, 2020
Washington,
August 21, 2020
Here is an update for August 21st.
Thought of the day: “If they respect you, respect them. If they disrespect you, still respect them. Do not allow the actions of others to decrease your good manners, because you represent yourself, not others.” — Mohammad Zeyara Yesterday, Michigan reported 419 new COVID-19 cases and 19 deaths related to the virus. The state also maintained a relatively steady positivity rate — reporting 665 out of 20,100 test results returned Wednesday were positive. That's a rate of 3.31%. Nationally, we reported over 43,000 cases which is an increase from Wednesday, but a much smaller amount of cases from the spike of cases in July. Today, the Postmaster General will testify before a Senate committee about mail slowdowns and cost cutting policies that have many of us worried about mail delivery in this country. It’s because of this worry that I’m back in Washington. Tomorrow, the House will vote on legislation which prohibits the Postal Service from implementing any changes to operations or level of service it had in place on January 1, 2020. The legislation would also provide $25 billion in critical funding to support the Postal Service: the same level of funding recommended by the USPS Board of Governors, which is composed of 100 percent Trump appointees. The USPS is essential to millions of Americans. We must make sure it remains intact. Washtenaw County issued a public health emergency order which prohibits outdoor social gatherings or events to under 25 people in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. This local order will enhance the state’s already existing order and will be helpful in slowing the spread of COVID-19. Team Dingell is here seven days a week and wants to listen and help. It isn’t as smooth as we want on some issues, but we will never stop fighting for you. Call our office at 313-278-2936 or contact us through Facebook or our webpage.
