Dingell Statement on FEMA Approving Michigan's Request for an Additional $300 Per Week to Unemployed Michiganders

DEARBORN, MI -- Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) released the following statement on FEMA approving Michigan's request for an additional $300 in weekly unemployment benefits.

"For the thousands of Michiganders who are unemployed this is good news, but does not offer a long-term solution to those in need. What Michiganders need is long-term assistance, which starts with the President and the Senate working with House Democrats on a bipartisan COVID-19 relief package. Every day I hear from hardworking men and women who need help. The people of Michigan need the Federal government to act and ensure they will be provided help through the entire extent of this global pandemic."

The additional $600 unemployment benefits payment that was included in the CARES Act expired on July 31st. The UIA estimates that under the new program, around 910,000 Michiganders would receive at least $300 per week in supplemental benefits. Eligible claimants will be paid benefits retroactive to August 1.
