Dingell Update: September 15, 2020

Here is an update for September 15th.

Thought of the day: "Energy and persistence conquer all things." -Benjamin Franklin

Over the last two days, Michigan reported 544 cases per day. The state's totals are now 6,601 confirmed deaths and 112,612 confirmed cases. Nationally, over 33,000 cases of COVID-19 were reported yesterday. We don’t know what the Fall will bring, but how serious we take the virus now will determine the severity of the virus in the coming months.

In an effort to provide accurate and timely information about COVID-19 in Michigan schools, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will begin reporting outbreak information by school building. Data on COVID-19 outbreaks is being collected from the 45 local health departments across the state weekly. The data will include K-12, college and university school name, address, number of cases and if the cases involved staff, students or both. The data will be posted here every Monday at 3:00pm. We will also share the data when it’s made public.

Last Friday, Congressman Tlaib and I visited the Amazon fulfillment center in Romulus, Michigan known as “DTW1” to inspect the conditions inside the plant. We were invited by Amazon to visit the center back in May. Before being allowed to enter the center, we were made to wait an hour while we believe they cleaned the inside of the center. The police were even called on us. There was crude ‘sanitizer stations’ in various locations within DTW1, small hallways and entrances, and workers were in tight proximity to one another. Workers need to know they are safe in their workplace. We will not stop working until every worker feels safe visiting their place of employment.

Wanted to end today’s daily update on some fun news. As the queen of junk food, there's nothing I love more than a good slice of Pizza and Michigan is home to great pizza. That’s why I’m so proud to let you know to that Buddy’s Pizza, located in my hometown of Dearborn, came in at #6 for best pizza in the country. You can find the full list here
