U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) released the following statement in recognition of Veterans Day.
“Veterans Day is the day we pause to salute the men and women who have served our country in the armed services. We remember, honor, and thank the men and women that have braved the high seas, flown into hostile air, and faced treacherous terrains to keep our nation safe, secure, and free. While we can never repay them for their service and sacrifice, we must work together to provide our veterans with the high-quality care they deserve when they get home.
“After serving our nation honorably in war, our veterans are experiencing an entirely new and different battle at home. Since the beginning of 2020, over 68,000 of our nation’s heroes have contracted the deadly COVID-19 virus, with over 4,000 having tragically lost their lives. After enduring combat in protection of our nation and our ideals, we owe it to them to do better. Much better.
“Today, as we honor our veterans, I am reminded of the words of President-Elect Joe Biden: ‘I know that our nation has just one truly sacred obligation: to prepare and equip those we send into harm’s way, and to care for them when they come home.’ Today, let it be our pledge that we will serve our veterans as well as they served us – with timely, quality health care, good-paying jobs, prompt benefits, and a roof over their heads. May we remember their service and many sacrifices today and every day.”
