Dingell, Carter Applaud Bipartisan Passage of Rosalynn Smith Carter Mental Health Resolution

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Congressman Buddy Cater (R-GA) applauded the bipartisan passage of their resolution to recognize Rosalynn Smith Carter’s 50 year legacy in mental health advocacy.

“Former First Lady Rosalynn Smith Carter used her powerful voice and passion for mental health care to force a long overdue reckoning in our nation,” said Congresswoman Dingell. “When many saw mental illness and substance use disorders as weakness, Mrs. Carter chose compassion and empathy to see the inherent strength in patients who deserved accessible treatment and affordable care. For five decades, has made the cause of behavioral health care her own and we are all better for her work and her legacy.”

“Former First Lady Rosalynn Smith Carter has fought to end the stigma against mental health illnesses and to increase access to mental health care,” said Congressman Carter. “Mrs. Carter has made Georgians proud, and I’m very glad to see this resolution pass the House today to recognize her as a champion in this fight.”
