Dingell on Biden Climate Crisis Executive Orders

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) today released the following statement celebrating President Joe Biden’s Executive Order to combat climate change and restore scientific integrity in the federal government. As a leader in the climate change fight in Congress, Dingell will work closely with the Biden-Harris Administration to match these executive actions with legislation to create a net-zero, clean economy by 2050.

“Combatting climate change requires a bold vision and an unquestioned belief in the ability of Americans to end this crisis,” said Congresswoman Dingell. “By prioritizing investments in environmental justice communities, President Biden and Vice President Harris recognize that Black and Brown families, Native American communities, and working class Americans have suffered the most extreme consequences of our government’s decades of inaction. Today, this Administration also took concrete action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition to a clean energy future, create clean energy jobs, strengthen our national security, and protect our precious natural resources for all future generations.

“But executive orders alone will not meet this moment. We need to bring environmental advocates, labor leaders, scientists, researchers, and all stakeholders together to chart a path forward that will save our environment while creating jobs. Congress needs to take urgent, substantive action guided by the work of people in our communities to end this crisis and undo the damage it has already done. We need to get to work now.”

As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Congresswoman Dingell has introduced legislation to create a Clean Energy and Sustainably Accelerator, transition to electric vehicles, ban PFAS chemicals, and outline a roadmap to revive our economy, while addressing the interlocking crises of climate change, racial injustice, public health, and economic inequity.
