WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) today released the following statement after President Joe Biden announced the National Strategy for the COVID-19 Response and Pandemic Preparedness.

“For a year we have needed a national strategy to combat the COVID pandemic, and now we have a leader willing to meet this moment. Today begins a new chapter in our nation’s fight against this deadly pandemic that has destroyed lives, devastated small businesses, and upended our entire economy,” said Congresswoman Dingell. “With this national strategy based on science and guided by experts, we can vaccinate our most vulnerable neighbors and frontline workers, mitigate spread through masking and public health measures, safely open schools, and support our local businesses. In his first full day in office, President Joe Biden is already demonstrating the bold leadership and unconditional compassion that has been sorely missing since this pandemic began.”

In Congress, Dingell has consistently led the calls for a national COVID strategy. Last year, she advocated for COVID response measures including policies to strengthen the Strategic National Stockpile, increase access to home and community based care, and prohibit water shutoffs nationwide and provide financial assistance for low-income households to pay for drinking water and wastewater.
