Rep. Dingell: American Rescue Plan Relief for Restaurants Available Beginning Monday

DEARBORN, MI - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) announced that restaurants in Michigan will be able to apply for direct relief through the Restaurant Revitalization Fund beginning Monday, May 3, at 12:00 p.m. ET. Applicants can register on the U.S. Small Business Administration application portal beginning today. The $28.6 billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund was created by the American Rescue Plan that Rep. Dingell helped pass last monthThe law incorporated key provisions from the RESTAURANTS Act, which Rep. Dingell also co-sponsored in the previous Congress.

“Our local restaurants provide jobs, feed us, donate to so many, and help support the hungry, and this pandemic has thrown everything at them. Restaurants are our gathering places, where we catch up with friends, bring family together, and connect with our communities,” said Rep. Dingell. “I’m thankful that we passed the American Rescue Plan to provide much-needed assistance to the industry and support the independent restaurants that are the heart and soul of our communities.”

The Restaurant Revitalization Fund will provide restaurants and other eligible businesses with funding equal to their pandemic-related revenue loss up to $10 million per business. The relief does not have to be repaid, provided that the funds are put toward eligible uses by March 11, 2023.

The restaurant industry has been uniquely devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This is particularly true of independent restaurants, which account for more than three-quarters of all restaurants and bars in the United States. The restaurant sector is the top contributor to unemployment rolls across America, with overall employment in the industry falling 23 percent during the pandemic.
