Dingell Statement on EPA Announcement on Combatting PFAS Pollution

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) issued the following statement applauding the Biden Administration and Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) continued effort to combat PFAS pollution and safeguard clean drinking water by setting stronger lifetime health advisory levels for four PFAS chemicals—PFOA, PFOS, GenX and PFBS—and making $1 billion in grant funding to states from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act:

“PFAS has no place in our homes or in our environment, and the new lifetime health advisories announced by the EPA today take an important step forward in our fight to rid our drinking water of these toxic forever chemicals. I was also pleased to see that the EPA has made critical funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act available to communities who have suffered on the frontlines of this crisis for far too long.

“Let’s be clear: PFAS is an urgent public health threat and EPA’s announcement underscores just how dangerous these chemicals truly are. The EPA must fulfill its commitment to set a PFAS national drinking water standard by this fall and it must continue to hold polluters accountable. The Senate must also act on my bipartisan PFAS Action Act which sets a drinking water standard, boosts clean-up of contaminated PFAS sites, and more.”
