Dingell Statement on Treasury EV Tax Credit Guidance
Washington,
March 31, 2023
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) released the following statement on the Treasury Department’s updated guidance regarding the Inflation Reduction Act’s new clean vehicle tax credit. “Accelerating domestic electric vehicle development, manufacturing, and deployment is critical to addressing the threat of climate change and advancing the future of transportation here in the United States. This proposed guidance from the Treasury Department today moves us closer to implementing the cost-saving provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act’s clean vehicle tax credit by clarifying for manufacturers the critical mineral and battery sourcing requirements that will be used moving forward for determining which vehicles will qualify for up to a $7,500 tax credit. While these proposed standards may lead to challenges in the short-term, in the years ahead this will help strengthen our domestic supply chains for electric vehicles, as well as help bring down the costs to purchase a clean vehicle. We must continue to make electric vehicles affordable and accessible to consumers and expand EV infrastructure nationwide. |
