Dingell Announces $100K from EPA for Ann Arbor Small Business to Advance Environmental Technologies

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) today announced that Fourth State LLC in Ann Arbor will receive $100,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop a plasma reactor that destroys PFAS and removes heavy metals in landfill leachate and other wastewaters.

“This funding will enable a small business right here in our community to develop innovative technology to protect Michiganders from PFAS," “Fourth State is doing important work to strengthen our local economy and protect our environment and public health. I look forward to the next steps in this project and will continue to work to address the PFAS crisis on all fronts."

This funding is awarded as part of PHASE I of EPA’s annual Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. Fourth State LLC is one of 23 small businesses receiving funding of up to $100,000 for 6 months for “proof of concept” of their proposed technologies. Companies that complete Phase I can then apply to receive Phase II award of $400,000 to further develop and commercialize their technologies.
