Dingell, Tlaib, Carson Introduce Resolution Recognizing Eid al-Fitr
WASHINGTON,
April 10, 2024
Representatives Debbie Dingell (MI-06), Rashida Tlaib (MI-12), and André Carson (IN-07) this week introduced a resolution recognizing Eid al-Fitr, the observance of the conclusion of Ramadan, and offering solidarity and support to all Muslims for a reflective observance.
“As the holy month of Ramadan comes to a close, this is a time for us all to remember the importance of compassion, justice, and generosity,” Dingell said. “This year, as we mark Eid al-Fitr, I am proud to recognize the contributions of Muslim Americans to every part of our society, and I am praying for peace for those in our community and around the world who are suffering.” “This Ramadan has been a time of deep spiritual reflection, but it has also been a painful time for so many of our Muslim neighbors in Michigan and around the world,” said Tlaib. “As we finish this holy month of fasting, may we remain in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza who are unable to celebrate, or feed their families to break their fasts, by continuing to advocate for a permanent ceasefire. My prayer is that this Eid al-Fitr brings healing and justice.” “During Eid, we honor our resolute strength and endurance,” Carson said. “I am proud to co-lead the Eid al-Fitr Resolution with Congresswoman Dingell to recognize the significance of this holiday. I will continue working across the aisle, across backgrounds, and across faiths as we all seek to shape a stronger country and world.” The resolution is cosponsored by Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Raúl Grijalva (AZ-03), Tony Cárdenas (CA-29), and Ilhan Omar (MN-05).
