Dingell Statement on Proposed Six-Month CR
WASHINGTON,
September 18, 2024
Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) released the following statement on Speaker Mike Johnson’s proposed plan to pass a six-month continuing resolution (CR) to postpone fully funding the government for FY25. “Speaker Mike Johnson is correct that we must immediately responsibly fund the federal government and ensure the security of our elections. The problem is that the bill he plans to vote on today does neither, and he knows it is dead on arrival in the Senate. “The SAVE Act does not make our elections safer. The name sounds great, but the substance would contribute to voter suppression, making it more difficult for the military, senior citizens, those who get married and change their names, rural Americans, students, individuals with disabilities, and others to vote. I am deeply concerned by foreign interference and influence in our elections, and we should be addressing that threat in a real way, not making it harder for Americans to vote and harder for local election workers to do their jobs.” |
