House Passes Bipartisan Dingell Bill to Promote America's Wireless Leadership

Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1377, the Promoting United States Wireless Leadership Act, led by Congressional 5G and Beyond Caucus co-chairs Representatives Debbie Dingell (D-MI), Tim Walberg (R-MI), and Annie Kuster (D-NH). The bipartisan bill will bolster American technological leadership by bringing key leaders together and encourage U.S. participation in global standards-setting for 5G networks and for future generations of wireless communications networks.

“The policy choices of today will have lasting effects on the global wireless technology development of tomorrow — especially as we compete against China,” Dingell said. “We must take concrete, proactive steps to lower barriers to entry for U.S. companies and promote American competitiveness in this space for each subsequent generation of these innovative technologies. We have bipartisan agreement that the United States must be a leader in the development and deployment of cutting-edge technologies. This bill does exactly that, and I’m glad it passed the House today with bipartisan support.”

"This critical legislation brings stakeholders together to create a unified approach to international standards-setting,” said Rep. Walberg. “From a national security and economic perspective, it is imperative that America continues to lead the world in wireless leadership. I appreciate the continued partnership of Rep. Dingell and Rep. Kuster as we work to counter adversarial influences.”

Rep. Dingell spoke on the house floor today in the support of the bill. Watch her remarks here.
