Dingell, Colleagues Relaunch Bipartisan House Cancer Caucus for 119th Congress

Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) joined U.S. Reps. Mike Kelly (R-PA), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) to announce the re-launch of the House Cancer Caucus for the 119th Congress. With renewed determination, the Caucus is intensifying its efforts to tackle cancer through groundbreaking research, innovative treatments, and comprehensive support for affected families.

“Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, and nearly every family has been touched by cancer in some way. I’m proud to serve as Co-Chair of the House Cancer Caucus to work across the aisle to secure funding for cancer research, raise awareness and education around cancer prevention efforts, advance treatment and care, and support patients, survivors, and their families,” said Rep. Debbie Dingell.

"I’m once again honored to serve as co-chair of the House Cancer Caucus. I look forward to working together with this bipartisan group to continue working to combat cancer and provide a brighter future for all Americans,” said Rep. Kelly. “This year, the caucus will once again work to secure funding for cancer research, promote legislation to bring new cancer treatments to the market, and provide support to the cancer-affected community. There remains much work to do, but I look forward to working with my colleagues to get it done."

"I am proud to continue serving as Co-Chair of the House Cancer Caucus alongside a bipartisan group of lawmakers united in our commitment to this vital mission—a fight that is deeply personal for me. Over the past several years, our Caucus has made significant progress. We have secured substantial federal funding for crucial research, championed legislation to drive medical innovation and expand treatment options, and enhanced support systems for patients and their families. However, our work is far from over. This fight requires bold action and unwavering effort, and we will not rest until cancer is no longer a formidable adversary but a defeated foe. Through continued dedication and bipartisan collaboration, we will continue working to turn what was once a dream of finding a cure into an achievable reality,” said Rep. Fitzpatrick.

“I am incredibly thrilled and honored to co-chair the House Cancer Caucus. My entire professional career, I advocated nonstop for cancer education, awareness, early detection, prevention, and survivorship,” said Rep. Wasserman Schultz. “As a breast cancer survivor, it is a privilege to continue to expand my voice and platform alongside Representatives Kelly, Fitzpatrick, and Dingell to pursue bipartisan policies that make life better for previvors, survivors, and thrivers. For me, the fight against cancer is as personal as it is professional. I look forward to the road ahead.”

Building on Momentum and Driving New Priorities

The re-launch of the House Cancer Caucus comes at a pivotal time. Recent successes, such as the FDA’s announcement banning Red Dye No. 3—a cause long championed by the Caucus—highlight the impact of bipartisan advocacy. Yet, the statistics paint a stark picture of the work still needed.

With the American Cancer Society projecting over 2 million new cancer diagnoses and more than 618,000 deaths in 2025, and the National Cancer Institute estimating $208 billion in cancer care costs in 2020 alone, the Caucus is doubling down on its commitment to advance prevention, early detection, and innovative treatments.

Key Priorities for the 119th Congress

  1. Expanding Critical Research Funding: Advocate for increased resources for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Cancer Institute (NCI) to fuel groundbreaking discoveries and next-generation therapies.
  2. Accelerating Treatment Pathways: Push legislation to streamline regulatory pathways, ensuring patients have quicker access to lifesaving treatments.
  3. Supporting Survivors and Families: Address the physical, emotional, and financial challenges faced by individuals and families navigating life after a cancer diagnosis.
