Dingell Announces $28 Million in HHS Grants for the University of Michigan

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) today announced that the University of Michigan will receive $28,871,680 in federal grant funding from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to conduct research in areas including cancer, oral diseases and disorders, aging, lung disease, pharmacology, physiology, and biological chemistry, and more. 

"This funding will support groundbreaking research at the University of Michigan, advancing research in critical areas such as skin, blood, oral, and heart diseases. cancer treatment, drug abuse and addiction, and more," said Dingell. "I am proud of the work that the University of Michigan continues to do to pave the way in cutting-edge research that matters, creating the best possible outcomes for patients." 

Projects receiving funding include: 

  • $343,200 for Arthritis, Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases Research  
  • $3,579,177 for Aging Research  
  • $699,339 for Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation Research  
  • $527,300 for Biological Response to Environmental Health Hazards  
  • $775,521 for Blood Diseases and Resources Research  
  • $2,263,000 for Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending – Construction  
  • $428,188 for Cancer Research Manpower  
  • $159,803 for Cancer Detection and Diagnosis Research  
  • $644,622 for Cancer Treatment Research  
  • $290,052 for Cancer Cause and Prevention Research  
  • $772,880 for Clinical Research Related to Neurological Disorders  
  • $1,786,262 Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolic Research  
  • $1,594,805 Drug Abuse and Addiction Research Programs  
  • $187,942 Heart and Vascular Diseases Research  
  • $5,801,829 Lung Diseases Research
