Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) released the following statement on the HALT Fentanyl Act.

“The opioid crisis is devastating families in Michigan and across the country, and we must take serious, decisive action to combat it. My sister died of a drug overdose, and I feel as strongly as anyone about the need to curb the drug problem in this country. Unfortunately, this bill does not do that. Permanent scheduling without off-ramps would prevent legitimate uses including developing new treatments and potential antidotes. We have a bipartisan bill in committee that would address these problems. Last week President Trump froze more than $8.6 billion in grant funding for federal programs to combat the opioid crisis. The answer is not messaging bills, and we cannot schedule our way out of this crisis. We need a bipartisan, comprehensive approach that includes investing in prevention, treatment, and recovery to help stop overdose deaths.”
