Dingell, Tlaib, AFGE Vice President Jason Anderson joined Local Labor Leaders to Discuss Impacts of Trump’s Federal Firings

U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell (MI-06), U.S. Representative Rashida Tlaib (MI-12), and AFGE District 7 National Vice President Jason Anderson held a listening session with local labor leaders to discuss how they have been impacted by recent federal firings and what roles and services are threatened.

“The men and women who have been laid off are the same people who keep our everyday lives running smoothly and keep us safe. The mass layoffs of federal workers are deeply alarming. Thousands of federal workers lives been upended, and in the process, the critical programs and services that countless families rely on have been put at risk,” said Rep. Dingell. “These cuts are having a real, devastating impact on people’s lives. Seniors who rely on Social Security are unable to get ahold of a human for assistance. Veterans, who have sacrificed their health in service to our country, are unable to secure timely medical appointments. NOAA, an agency whose vital work in monitoring weather and environmental hazards keeps us all safer, has also seen drastic reductions. These reckless cuts are hurting the American people."

“The way the Trump Administration with their unelected billionaire is illegally firing federal workers is cruel and causing a disruption in services. These actions are destroying critical programs that support our families and crushing the ability for our government to serve our residents. This is a constitutional crisis. We must put an end to these illegal and reckless actions,” said Rep. Tlaib.

“The current Administration and DOGE are attacking working class America by methodically and systematically dismantling the agencies that provide vital and essential services to the American people by eliminating jobs for hundreds of thousands. Each of these agencies function using a sum of all components. If you unilaterally eliminate certain positions, it severely hinders the rest of the organization's functions, and they are well aware of that fact. When the Administration directed the TSA Administrator to unilaterally break the TSA collective bargaining agreement, they’re not just attacking workers’ rights—they’re undermining the safety of our skies and putting people's lives at risk. A demoralized, understaffed, underpaid, and overworked TSA workforce means longer lines, weaker security, and greater risks for travelers. What’s happening to TSA isn’t just about contracts; it’s about the integrity of our democracy, where Union contracts and safe skies are not discarded at the whim of the billionaire class,” said AFGE District 7 National Vice President Jason Anderson.
