Dingell Statement on Republican Bill to Disenfranchise Voters
Washington,
February 11, 2026
Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) today released the following statement on her ‘no’ vote on the Republican SAVE America Act, which would disenfranchise millions of American voters. “Republicans’ SAVE America Act does not make our elections safer — instead, it will block millions of eligible Americans from registering to vote. This bill would lead to voter suppression, making it more difficult for the military, senior citizens, those who get married and change their names, rural Americans, students, individuals with disabilities, and others to vote. “Also hidden in this bill is a provision that would mandate states to share their voter rolls with the Department of Homeland Security. The U.S. Constitution clearly dictate elections are managed by state governments, and we should not be handing over any state’s files to DHS for them to weaponize. “I am deeply concerned by foreign interference and influence in our elections, and we should be addressing that threat in a real way, not making it harder for Americans to vote and harder for local election workers to do their jobs. Democracy only works if every citizen can participate in the voting process.” |
