Dearborn WORKS will assist participants with the ability to start and manage their own small/home businesses. A second tier to the program will offer support to women who already have businesses and/or applicable skills and wish to grow their project into a microenterprise, allowing them to take their entrepreneurial talent to market.

The funding will the support rehabilitation, renovation, improvements, and launch an emergency homeless shelter system for single adults in Wayne County, Michigan, known locally as Out-Wayne County. The former emergency shelter system in Out-Wayne County became obsolete as a result of the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, several churches and their volunteers provided space and served the public during winter months. That system no longer operates due to health and safety concerns. Wayne Metro, with the support of its partners, proposes to create two emergency shelters – a day shelter in Taylor and an overnight shelter in River Rouge, Michigan. Wayne Metro will offer professional services to enhance the shelter system with case management, life skills and supportive services.

The college credit Electric Battery Program Certificate will be built as a stackable credential that leads to an associate degree and business/industry certification. The Electric Charging Station Maintenance non-credit Certificate of Completion will be designed to articulate to college credit and will also be aligned with business/industry certification.
