Explanation of Request:

The funding would allow for the Township of Canton to engineer and construct a new fire station. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because the fire station would assist low to moderate income residents in Canton as it would be located in the lowest income region in Canton Township. Due to its location it would also assist adjacent communities of Wayne, Westland, Inkster, Garden City, Livonia, Van Buren, Belleville and other Western Wayne communities.

Explanation of Request:

The funding would allow for the Charter Township of Northville to replace their aging communications antennae, 911 phone system, security system, and a back up generator. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will improve the safety for all residents in the Charter Township of Northville and the 14 surrounding communities that rely on the proposed improvements.

Explanation of Request:

The funding would allow for the City of Ann Arbor to complete an upgrade of pedestrian signals at high volume pedestrian crossings. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will improve safety for all City of Ann Arbor residents and it will increase accessibility for those with visual impairments.

Explanation of Request:

The funding would be used to rebuild the Chelsea Area Fire Authority facility. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will be applied to the construction of a new facility to improve emergency services to the community of over 5,000. The current fire authority building was built in 1963 and is in very poor condition.

Explanation of Request:

The funding would be used to replace the city’s watermain infrastructure. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because the investment will enhance the city water supply, which serves 4,977 residents, by upgrading its water infrastructure at critical points in the system. This will directly assist the replacement efforts of lead service lines across the community and assist with the state-driven removal program.

Explanation of Request: The funding would be used for significant upgrades to the City’s senior center. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will support a large portion of the senior community in the area, as well as create a recreational space for the parks and recreation department. This building houses and serves around 400 seniors with the help of the Milan Seniors for Healthy Living.

The funding would be used for the reconstruction of the Saline WWTP transforming it into a modern plant which protects Michigan’s surface waters, the Great Lakes and the health of our communities. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because this federal investment would increase affordability and accessibility of safe drinking water for the Saline community, while providing significant protections for the environment.

Explanation of Request:

The funding would allow for the Dexter Community School District to build a multigenerational, multipurpose community and senior center to be utilized by cities and towns in the surrounding area. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because this federal investment would establish a multigenerational community center to enhance the Greater Dexter Area community and help to attract new residents and businesses for economic growth in the area.

Explanation of Request:

The funding would allow for DCC to do the preliminary planning and reconstruction of the Jefferson Avenue corridor. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will improve a road that connects multiple communities together. Jefferson Avenue is the small business, economic development, and social hub of the Downriver region and will benefit all community members.

Explanation of Request:

The funding would allow for Plymouth Township to install over a quarter mile of sidewalk along one of the busiest roads to connect the two halves of the surrounding community. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because this dangerous gap in sidewalk access currently separates the two halves of the Plymouth Township community, forcing residents to either drive or walk roughly 2 miles to reach destinations that can be accessed by a short walk with the proper pedestrian and cyclist safety improvements. These funds would pay for the site prep, construction, and post-construction landscape restoration for the sidewalk.

The funding would allow for SHVUA to provide necessary capital improvements and updates to its municipal wastewater treatment plant. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because this federal investment would allow for SHVUA to maintain and keep sewer rates affordable for its 90,000 residents, while ensuring the community has access to clean water.

Explanation of Request:

The funding would allow for the Van Buren Township Downtown Development Authority to reconstruct a portion of Belleville Road, add sidewalks and pedestrian crossings, and improved intersection alignment. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will improve traffic flow, improve pedestrian safety, and increase the infrastructure needed for the growing economic sector of Van Buren Township.

Explanation of Request:

The funding would be used to improve its wastewater treatment plant. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it would help the community build a new wastewater storage tank, along with a new generator, and lift station. These improvements of storage and treatment of wastewater will allow for the future growth of the Village of Manchester.

Explanation of Request:

The funding would allow for the Washtenaw County Road Commission to complete a reconstruction of the 5-lane Hewitt Road in Ypsilanti Township along with adding bike lanes and sidewalk facilities. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will bring a long-term solution to the vitality of a road that is a high priority emergency vehicle route, while making it safer for non-motorized citizens to safely use the roadways.

Explanation of Request:

The funding would allow for Ypsilanti Charter Township and the American Center for Mobility to complete the common area infrastructure such as roads, utilities, and storm sewers. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because this federal investment would allow ACM to develop its technology park, and build on the mobility ecosystem it has already developed with its testing and garage system. ACM is strategically aligned with ensuring southeast Michigan is a premier location for automotive and mobility research and development.
