Each spring, a nationwide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our congressional district.
The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the District. The overall winner of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will also include artwork from other contest winners nationwide.
The artwork may be:
- Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
- Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
- Two-dimensional collages
- Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
- Mixed Media
- Computer-generated Art
- Photographs
While the purpose of this competition is to express the creativity and talent of our community in our nation’s capital, there are some restrictions:
- Artwork must be two-dimensional
- Artwork cannot be larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep (including the frame)
- The artwork may not weigh more than 15 pounds
- Artwork must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws.
- A student must fill out the “Student Information Release Form” and attach it to the back of their artwork
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved in the nationwide competition.
Please drop artwork off at my district offices no later than Friday, April 11, 2025.
