Washtenaw County

 

SafeHouse Center

SafeHouse Center offers support to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault including legal advocacy, crisis support, emergency shelter, and support groups.  

 

 

Washtenaw County Prosecutor Office

The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office provides victim/witness services to victims of felony, misdemeanor, and juvenile crimes. Victims can contact the Prosecutor’s Office to connect with a victim advocate.   

 

 

University of Michigan Students/Faculty 

If you or someone you know has experienced domestic violence, you can contact the University of Michigan Police Department at 734-763-1131 to be connected with a Special Victims Unit that specializes in assisting survivors of interpersonal violence.  

The Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC) is also available to support for those experiencing sexual assault, interpersonal violence, stalking, and gender-based harassment. A 24/7 Crisis Line is available at 734-936-3333.

 

 

Legal Services of South Central Michigan

LSSCM provides legal services for qualifying low-income individuals, including assistance securing personal protection orders and help with divorce and custody cases for survivors of domestic violence. LSSCM also offers the Family Law Project to support survivors of domestic violence across Washtenaw County.

ACCESS’s Survivor of Violence Empowerment Program provides support to survivors of crime, including those experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, and abuse. The program offers a wide variety of services including case management, psychiatric services, legal services, prevention services, employment services, and transitional housing.

Centro provides culturally sensitive and trauma-informed programs to support survivors of abuse, violence, and harm. These services include counseling and emotional support, resource referrals to legal services, especially needing to apply for immigrant visa or needing divorce and custody support, and translation assistance in accessing community resources.

SASHA offers free and confidential support group services and culturally specific activities to survivors of sexual assault. SASHA Center focuses on the African American experience, but its services are open to all regardless of race.

Avalon offers trauma-informed care to survivors of sexual assault. It provides a safe and confidential place with specifically trained Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners to assist with medical examinations and forensic evidence collection for rape victims. Avalon also provides other free supportive services including counseling, pediatric services, and legal advocacy. 

 

 

YWCA Metro Detroit, Interim House

YWCA offers supportive services to survivors of intimate partner violence including temporary emergency shelter, food, clothing, childcare, and help with personal protection orders via the Detroit Police Department’s Domestic Violence Units.

Michigan Indian Legal Services provides legal assistance and advocacy to income-eligible individuals, specializing in the legal needs of the members of the native communities to Michigan. NLSM offers supportive services including financial assistance, housing relocation, and stabilization services for victims of violence. They may be able to help with short and medium long term rental assistance, security deposits, moving costs, and legal services pertaining to personal protection orders, filing legal documents, and divorce and custody matters.

Legal Aid and Defender provides comprehensive civil legal services to those who cannot afford an attorney within Wayne, Macomb, and Oakland counties.
