Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) issued the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed adding the McLouth Steel Site in Trenton, MI to the Superfund Program’s National Priorities List:
“Proposing to add McLouth to the National Priorities List is an important step toward helping Trenton and the surrounding communities clean up the site and protect the ground and water. This site has been idle for decades with multiple environmental incidents over that period of time. While efforts have been made to use local resources to clean up the site, it’s clear the federal government needs to get involved. The EPA’s proposal is critical for public health and the economic benefit to the community. There is still a long road ahead of us, but I’m encouraged by everyone’s vigilance in working together. Now is the time to stop looking backwards and begin looking toward the future and focusing on what the community needs.”
