U.S. Sen. Gary Peters (D-Michigan) and U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-12th District) appeared at a commercial vehicle outfitting plant in Taylor Friday to announce legislation that promotes investments in research and development of fuel-efficient technologies.
Peters and Dingell appeared with Ross Haith Jr., president of Leggett and Platt Commercial Vehicle Products, 20401 Trolley Industrial Drive in Taylor. Leaders of several trade organizations also attended the announcement.
Dingell said she will introduce a companion piece in the House to legislation that Peters co-sponsored in the Senate that will promote investments in clean vehicle technologies, reduce dependence on foreign oil and keep jobs in Michigan.
The Vehicle Innovation Act reauthorizes a Department of Energy program that works with light duty automobile and medium and heavy duty commercial truck manufacturers and suppliers to conduct research and development to improve fuel efficiency.
In addition, the bill includes provisions to encourage the development of technologies that could reduce traffic accidents and congestion.
