The Hill: Dem wants to fill Medicare gap for hearing aids

The Hill

Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) has introduced legislation so that seniors can use their Medicare coverage to pay for hearing aids.

The Michigan Democrat argued that allowing Medicare to cover hearing aids would help more seniors afford the devices. Digital hearing aids can cost around $4,000, while other hearing aids are priced at less than $1,000.

Dingell recalled an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) doctor telling her that more than half of patients were unable to afford hearing aids due to the cost.

"No one should feel isolated, confused or shut out from the world around them because they cannot afford the treatment they need. This bill is just one piece of the puzzle to bring our fragmented and unnavigable health care system into the 21st century to better serve seniors and families," Dingell said in a statement.
