Earlier this week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Butch Lewis Act. This was a victory for the thousands of hardworking men and women across the country who worked a lifetime, gave up pay raises, and paid into their pensions to ensure they have a safe and secure retirement.
For too long, hardworking men and women have lived in fear, not knowing what was going to happen with their pension. I know too many of these men and women. They’ve come worried to my door at 7:00AM, they’ve contemplated suicide, they’ve lived in constant fear not knowing what tomorrow will bring. By passing the Butch Lewis Act, we are sending a loud message that we hear them and are taking steps to ensure the retirement they worked for will be there when they need it.
American workers have done their part, the House of Representatives has done their part, and now the Senate must do their part. We’ve all said words about protecting pensions – it’s time to put it into action.
Sincerely,
Debbie Dingell
Member of Congress
