Dingell Statement on Passage of Resolution Opposing US Actions in Syria
Washington,
October 16, 2019
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell released the following statement after House passage of H.J.Res 77, a resolution opposing the decision to end certain United States efforts to prevent Turkish military operations against Syrian Kurdish forces in Northeast Syria. “Once again, President Trump’s lack of a clear strategy in the Middle East is harming American interests abroad. This rash decision is causing pain and suffering, and puts into question our commitments to our long-standing allies. The Kurds have been key allies in the fight against ISIS and we should not have turned our backs on them. This strong, bipartisan vote in the House today send a strong message of disapproval of these actions. President Trump should come up with a real strategy to end the conflict in Syria rather than pursuing half-baked moves like this which have deadly implications.”
