Dingell: US Must Lead World in Addressing Climate Change

WASHINGTON, DC – Today Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) released the following statement upon her return from the 2019 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Madrid, Spain:

“Countries from every corner of the globe are experiencing the harsh realities of climate change: devastating hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, and rising sea levels. It is of upmost urgency that we all must come to the table and work together to address the crisis of our lifetimes.

“If one thing was clear from our trip to Madrid, it’s that the United States is still in the Paris Climate Agreement and committed to addressing climate change. We must lay out guidelines to reduce greenhouse gases, build coalitions with other countries, industry, and labor – the United States must lead the world in addressing climate change. Americans need to be front and center in efforts to protect our planet for future generations.”

During the visit, Dingell, Pelosi, and the Congressional Delegation met with the United Nations Secretary, Prime Minister of Spain, His Majesty King Felipe IV of Spain, heads of vulnerable countries, representatives of many countries, NGOs, and faith groups. They attended sessions and met with people doing work to address climate change to see and hear about their accomplishments and their challenges.
