Dingell Voting for Impeachment to Protect Constitution, National Security, Future of Democracy
Washington,
December 17, 2019
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) announced she will vote for both articles of impeachment by issuing the following statement: “We are a divided nation, but we can never be divided on the rule of law. President Trump and his Administration took actions that threatened our national security, abused the power of the office, and undermined our elections. He put politics over country by asking a foreign government to investigate a political rival while threatening to withhold military aid. It is our moral responsibility to protect the Constitution, our national security, and our democracy. If we don’t address this abuse of power, we abdicate our Constitutional and moral responsibility and we are condoning these actions for future administrations. I will vote for both articles of impeachment to protect our Constitution, our democratic republic, and the future of our country. “Throughout this process I have heard passionately from both sides. I spent significant time studying, reading reports with attention to detail, and listening to constitutional scholars and other experienced experts. My vote comes from thoughtful consideration of the facts and a commitment to our Constitution. “No member comes to Congress hoping to impeach the President. We come to improve the lives of Americans. We work to lower prescription drug prices, pass trade deals that level the playing field for hard-working men and women, protect the environment, and strengthen education. Working for the people of this great country has been and will continue to be my driving force in Congress.” |
