Dingell Update: June 3, 2020

Here is an update for June 3rd.

Thought of the day: “The menace to America today is in the emphasis on what separates us rather than on what brings us together” — Robert Bellah

Cities across America remain scenes of protests, messages being delivered by those that care about injustice, brutality, intolerance, inequity, discrimination, demanding the change that is needed. Many are respectful, focused and deliberate. Each of us needs to listen, and in our communities be part of the change we need. Change and reform are required. I signed on a resolution calling on Congress to condemn police brutality, racial profiling and take urgent legislative action to save lives. We must work together for change. Dr. King’s teachings must continue to be our inspiration. If you are protesting, please wear your masks, try to keep physical distance. We don’t want to see spikes in COVID or more deaths.

On Tuesday, Michigan reported 199 new cases of COVID-19 and 37 deaths caused by COVID-19. We are seeing encouraging trends, but we cannot forget this virus is still out there and very real. Please continue to practice physical distancing and do what’s best for our community’s health.

In order to help health professionals quickly and easily access resources, the FDA created a new web page titled Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Resources for Health Professionals. This page contains links to the FDA emergency use authorizations; information about personal protective equipment and other medical products for use during COVID-19. Health professionals and their safety remains a top priority for us all.

On Monday, the Ann Arbor Fisher House opened up. This project has always been very close to my heart and every year I fight for more funding for Fisher Houses in Michigan and across the country. Fisher House gives veterans and their families a place to stay while receiving care at the VA. Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen. This was a true community effort. We will always support our veterans.
