Dingell Announces Over $500,000 in Grants for Southeast Michigan Transit Services
Washington,

DEARBORN, MI — Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) announced the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) of Southeast Michigan will receive $500,639 in grants from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) through the CARES Act. The funds will be used for planning and coordination functions throughout the RTA’s service area of Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne Counties. “Reliable and safe public transit is essential now more than ever – providing a ride to work, essential shopping, and necessary medical appointments,” said Dingell. “This critical funding will help ensure the people of Southeast Michigan can rely on trains as a safe form of transportation, while helping the RTA and their financial stability.” In March of this year, the House passed and President Trump signed into law the CARES Act. The CARES Act provides $25 billion to transit agencies across the country to help prevent, prepare for, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant from the FTA is 100 percent federal funds with no local match required. Earlier this year, Dingell announced $20.7 million for the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority in CARES Act funding. ### |
