Dingell Update: August 19

Here is an update for August 19th.

Thought of the day:
“Strong people don't put others down... They lift them up.” ― Michael P. Watson

Yesterday, Michigan reported 477 new COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths related to the virus. This brings the states total case count to 93,662 and total death toll to 6,340. Nationally, we reported a little over 39,000 cases which is a drop in daily cases from the last two weeks.

Yesterday, the Postmaster General announced all changes to the USPS will be suspended until after the election. But there’s still many questions that need to be answered. What will plans for after the election look like? Will there be a system in place to ensure people receive their mail in a timely manner? Will mail sorting Machines that were shutdown reopen? The House will still come back to address this on Saturday. We have to make sure the Postmaster General sticks to his word that he will delay changes.

The living conditions at the Sycamore-Meadows Apartments in Superior Township continue to be an issue deeply hurting the residents. Tenants are living with visible and pervasive presence of mold in units, flooding after heavy rain, and general plumbing and electrical issues that have remained unaddressed. Yesterday I sent a letter to HUD asking them to send out representatives to inspect the conditions and that I accompany them during the inspections. You can read the letter here.
